Training high school volunteers for thirty years to lead community health projects in Latin America.

Since its inception in 1984, the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of Amigos has trained and sent hundreds of high school-age volunteers to Latin America on summer service trips.  Our chapter (local training and support group) has been one of the strongest in terms of leadership and the number of successful volunteers we train.

Chapter training meetings are held twice monthly for volunteers preparing to lead community health projects during the summer in Latin America.  Parents meet monthly.  "Veteran" volunteers who have previously participated in Amigos develop their own leadership skills by assisting in training.  Our Training Director, Brad Mills, participated in Amigos and then went on to live and work in Latin America for two years after graduating college.

The Board of Directors of our chapter is composed of veteran volunteers (now adults) and veteran parents who give of their time that the chapter might offer this opportunity to other high school students.

We are no longer accepting applications for the summer of 2010.

About AMIGOS

Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international, not-for-profit organization with more than 30 chapters across the United States that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.

Since its founding in 1965, more than 20,000 high school and college-age students have served as AMIGOS Volunteers.  Through their training and service experience they gain life-changing insights about other cultures, effective civic engagement and their personal potential.

AMIGOS gives young people an extraordinary opportunity to rise to the challenge of independently managing great responsibility within multicultural settings.  Extensive training programs teach youth valuable skills, such as how to build effective teams to foster sustainable community improvements.
